This project involved the replacement of three structures. SR 0116 over Rock Creek is a two span I-beam bridge which was replaced with a two span, 94-foot-long prestressed concrete spread box beam bridge and fell within the Gettysburg Battlefield Historic District and the Gettysburg National Military Park. Extensive coordination with the National Park Service resulted in a design that kept the replacement structure footprint within the current footprint. SR-0116 over White Run was a single-span structure that was replaced with a 42.5-foot-long single-span prestressed concrete spread box beam bridge. The third structure was SR 0116 over Chicken Run. The existing 10-foot-long concrete slab bridge was replaced with a precast concrete box culvert of similar size. Work involved extensive hydrologic and hydraulic studies within a detailed FEMA study area, right-of-way, roadway and bridge design, public involvement and obtaining environmental clearances. Mackin authored TS&L design calculations and prepared the TS&L submission for all 3 bridges. The Mackin team also assisted with the preparation of the bridge construction drawings.
