Restoration of a private golf course into a public community park (the former golf property was split for a new high school and a community park). Mackin prepared a conceptual plan for the entire site and later completed master planning services for the park. Rolling Hills Park was planned for non-organized recreation and leisure spaces. There are No sport fields. The program includes 3-miles of trails for walking, cycling, hiking; open fields for multi-use events, and non-structured activities. There are places walk & bike, play, exercise, read, think, learn, etc.
The park features a nature center, dog park, adventure play area, picnic lodge, picnic pavilions and playgrounds, and aquatic center, and a tennis/paddle sport center (which will be shared with adjacent high school). The park was designed with a trail system that connects the Arrowhead/Montour Trail. A person can bike from home to the trail, to the park, to the high school and back without crossing a road.
Final plans included a pedestrian overpass to connect the school and park properties, and a 2.5-mile trail system that safely links the park to the school and to the Arrowhead Trail system.
