The purpose of the study was to investigate if a safer bicycle route can be established between the City of Pittsburgh and the 360-mile GAP Trail system to the State of Ohio. Once complete, this link will connect over 450-miles of trail from our nation’s capital in Washington DC to Ohio’s trail system and the great lakes. The project proposed recommended routes, schematic design for safety improvements, construction costs, and a phasing plan for implementation. This project linked directly to our other work with City of Pittsburgh to extend the Three Rivers Heritage Trail westward.
Mr. Genter served as Project Manager, responsible for leading the multi–disciplinary team comprised of landscape architects, traffic engineers, community planners, and public relation specialists. The project was performed with cooperation from PennDOT District 11–0, government agencies, other trail and community non-profits, multiple municipalities and county planning agencies.
