The KV Greenway project is a multi-faceted, greenway, trail and public art planning process for the 26-mile Kiskimfinetas Valley (Kiski Valley) in southwestern Pennsylvania. The overarching goal of the planning process is to build upon natural resources conservation and outdoor recreation opportunities so those opportunities can be woven into revitalization efforts associated with the Main Street Programs.
An integral component of the project included field views of the 26-mile corridor. These field views included driving the road corridors, walking the greenway and natural areas as well as kayaking the Kiski River in order to “see” the project area from the river perspective, which is much different from the land. Through these various field views, recommendations were made to help connect the communities through automobile, bicycle, pedestrian and water pathways.
“It took me too long to get here, but I was enchanted by my first visit to Vandergrift: the design of the town, the bookshop in an old funeral home and my unexpected fall into the Kiskiminetas. Then I started learning more about this beautiful and fascinating river valley, its bridges and towns, its history, its breakfasts, and I ended up loving this surprising and cool part of Western Pennsylvania.” Rick Sebak – Producer/Narrator (WQED TV)
