Harrison Township was awarded a grant from Allegheny Together for design and CDBG funds for construction to implement the reconstruction of a local roadway with improvements for pedestrian and bicycle use. The project corridor extended 9-blocks (6,797 LF) and connected the community’s residential homes to shops, school and recreation resources. Mackin first completed the 6-mile master plan and feasibility study to reconnect the community; this project was the first phase for construction.
Mackin worked with the township’s steering committee, property owners, PennDOT District 11–0, and Allegheny County Planning to develop the design and final engineering for the plan. Deliverables included preliminary design and budgeting, final engineering, traffic signal permits, and bid documents. The plan provides traffic calming measures, and better connects the community with an accessible (ADA) walking route, improved pedestrian crossings, bike lanes and defined vehicle and parking lanes. The project included drainage repairs, pavement and sidewalk replacements, and ornamental intersection pavements and crossings.
The project was phased for construction and included three phases ranging from $200,000-$400,000 each.
