Mackin was selected to serve as a subconsultant to support the overall effort to re-invigorate the East Pittsburgh and Turtle Creek communities. The project will address three specific areas as the foundation for improvement for these communities: Business Needs, Resident Needs, and Traffic Needs. Mackin is responsible for the traffic component of the project, which is to improve vehicular flow, pedestrian movements, and the accommodation of bicycles. Responsibilities include:
- Collecting and analyzing traffic data
- Completing traffic signal warrants
- Evaluating vehicular, bicycle, and pedestrian circulation
- Providing conceptual designs for traffic signals, pedestrian, and bicycle accommodations, signing and pavement markings, and traffic calming devices such as curb extensions, raised intersections, and traffic circles
