The streetscape reconstruction project included design, engineering and permitting for 8-blocks of the City’s Main Street including new traffic signals. Mackin worked with the Office of Economic and Community Development to first develop a multi-modal master plan for the entire project (phases 1-4) and then completed project engineering documents for City Council and PennDOT District 2-0 approval for each phase of development. Mackin also provided part-time construction inspection services with the city during construction of all phases.
Phases-1 & 2 ($1.6M) and Phases 3-4 ($1.2M) were completed concurrently. Construction improvements included lowering the road crown and resurfacing, new traffic signals, new walks and curbs, drainage improvements, ADA compliant crossings, curb extensions and traffic calming, bike lanes, ornamental pavement design and architectural lighting and landscaping. Mackin worked with the OECD to develop project budgets to procure funds through 4- different funding sources (CDBG, ARC, TE, and RACP).
The project included the design of public space along Main Street, restoration of a town clock, and the reuse of salvaged historic pavers in the central plaza design. The multi-modal master plan considered bike lane and bus route/stop connections in the corridor; bike infrastructure is part of the final design in both phase-1 and phase-2.
