District 5-0 Lehigh & Northampton County Intersection Safety Improvements

Mackin Engineering is providing preliminary engineering services for 3 intersections in PennDOT Engineering District 5-0. Two of the three projects consist of designing and evaluating intersections on S.R. 248 (Lehigh Drive) in Northhampton County. The first project design is for an existing flashing beacon at the intersection S.R. 248/S.R. 4003 Walnut Drive known as Pennsville. Mackin’s design team will evaluate traffic control signalization warrants. The second project design is an existing signal where Mackin will evaluate a roundabout design alternative and capacity analysis for the S.R. 248/S.R. 946 intersection in the Village of Berlinsville just south of the Blue Mountain Ski Area. The last intersection improvement in Whitehall Township Lehigh County is the design of traffic signal upgrades for MacArthur Road, a 4-lane arterial highway north of Allentown, at the S.R. 145/S.R. 329 intersection known as Eagle Point. Each project is a unique setting and Mackin’s design team will utilize recent Highway Safety Improvement Program project experience to design these intersections with safety as the primary focus and need governing the design.

Montour Trail Montour Trail: Morganza & Georgetown Bridges’ Ribbon Cutting

The ribbon cutting ceremony for two new Montour Trail Bridges was held at the project site in Hendersonville, Washington County, on July 29, 2012. Both bridges and several hundred feet of Trail were designed by Mackin’s Structural and Landscape Architecture Departments for the Montour Trail. Mackin has performed the design of extensive sections of Montour Trail and numerous bridges over a 13 year period. The new bridges, Morganza (118’) and Georgetown (111’), are single span 3 girder bridges.

“These two bridges are of inestimable value because they eliminate a pair of troublesome gaps in the middle of the 50-plus mile Montour Trail system,” Ned Williams (Montour Trail Council president) said. “They will make this central Washington County portion of the trail a highly attractive destination.”
